ARAG is one of the nation's leading providers of employer-sponsored legal insurance. Like MetLife Legal Plans, ARAG connects employees with a network of pre-screened attorneys — covering attorney fees for a wide range of legal matters, including estate planning.
Christopher Mulvaney is a panel attorney for ARAG. If your employer offers ARAG legal insurance as a benefit, your estate planning attorney fees may be fully covered — at no additional cost to you beyond your regular payroll deduction.
What ARAG Covers
ARAG typically covers attorney fees for the preparation and execution of core estate planning documents, including:
- Revocable Living Trust
- Pour-Over Will
- Financial Power of Attorney
- Healthcare Power of Attorney
- Living Will / Advance Directive
Coverage details vary by plan. Christopher will confirm what your specific ARAG plan covers before beginning work — so there are no surprises.
What Is Not Covered
Certain services fall outside standard ARAG coverage and require separate payment via Zelle:
- Recording of Quitclaim Deeds, Transfer on Death Deeds, and Deeds of Trust — county recording fees are not covered by any legal insurance plan
- Preparation of deeds for property other than your primary residence — discounted rate of $150 per deed
- Washington State Estate Tax planning — doubling the WA Estate Tax exemption from $3 million to $6 million — $1,500 via Zelle

ARAG vs. MetLife Legal Plans
Both ARAG and MetLife Legal Plans are employer-sponsored legal insurance programs that cover estate planning attorney fees. The key differences are in plan structure, employer availability, and specific coverage terms — but the outcome for clients is the same: your estate planning attorney fees are covered.
If your employer offers MetLife Legal Plans, see the MetLife Legal Plans page for details specific to that program.
Not Sure If You Have ARAG?
Check your employee benefits portal or ask your HR department whether legal insurance is included in your benefits package. Many employees are unaware they have this benefit — and it can make the difference between having an estate plan and not having one.
If you don't have ARAG or MetLife Legal Plans through your employer, Christopher's flat fee billing makes estate planning affordable without insurance. See the Flat Fee Billing page for details.
Ready to use your ARAG benefit? Complete the Online Intake Form and Christopher will prepare a draft estate plan for your review — at no cost and no obligation.
